I’ve never heard of a driver trying to qualify to be second. It is impossible to think this. Ferrari like most teams strictly run an alternating position of who goes first and second. Kimi’s turn to go second. If Vettel wanted that he should have asked before qualifying and as always it would be his. Crying after qualifying is a bad time to bring it up. Hindsight is 20/20. No start of a race does any driver hand over the first corner to his teammate. Vettel went to the left behind Kimi, so Lewis took 5he right side into the first turn, following the racing line. Vettel off the racing line crashed into Lewis. It was the wrong time for Vettel to take a massive, low percentage risk. There is the whole race to use 5he superior power of the Ferrari. Kimi took a 6 second advantage over Lewis until Bottas held him up. Vettel typically is even faster and threw away his race on the first corner.
